RMCI and YCTI Training Courses Confirmed for Florida in February 2027

Training Opportunities
New training opportunities for marine coatings professionals will take place in Cocoa, Florida, with dates confirmed for the Registered Marine Coatings Inspector (RMCI) qualification and Yacht Coatings Technical Insight (YCTI) course.
The Marine Surveying Academy (MSA – a branded division of IIMS) has confirmed plans to deliver RMCI and YCTI training in the United States in February 2027, providing opportunities for professionals seeking to develop their knowledge and expertise in marine coatings.
Both programmes will be delivered in Cocoa, Florida, with places limited.
Registered Marine Coatings Inspector (RMCI) Course & Qualification
The RMCI qualification comprises two elements: online webinars followed by in-person practical training and examinations.
Element One: Online webinars
The webinars will take place over three consecutive days, with all times shown in UK time (GMT).
- Monday 8 February, 14:00–16:30: Session 1 – Introduction, materials, corrosion and surface preparation
- Tuesday 9 February, 14:00–16:30: Session 2 – Coatings and application methods
- Wednesday 10 February, 14:00–16:00: Session 3 – Specifications and procedures
The webinars will be recorded, with delegates receiving copies to support their preparation for the practical sessions.
Element Two: Practical training and examinations
The in-person practical sessions and examinations are scheduled for:
Monday 22 February to Wednesday 24 February 2027
- Daily training: 09:00–17:30 (US local time)
- Three examinations will take place on the final day:
- Practical examination
- Written examination
- Multiple-choice examination
Yacht Coatings Technical Insight (YCTI) Course
The two-day YCTI course provides in-person training for those seeking a deeper understanding of yacht coatings.
The course is scheduled for Thursday 25and Friday 26 February 2027 in Cocoa, Florida, with training running from 09:00 to 17:30 each day (US local time).

The RMCI website has also been updated to include the Registered Marine Coatings Consultant (RMCC) level. RMCIs can apply for this consultant-level, subject to meeting the relevant criteria.

The RMCI qualification was developed to support professional standards in marine coatings inspection, particularly within the large yacht and superyacht sectors.
