ICOMIA Marinas Group Policy on Marina Leases

December 31, 2018

Marinas provide essential on-water and off-water boat storage and associated infrastructure and amenities as well as public access to waterways across the land/water interface. They create employment, economic activity and support tourism to the communities surrounding their location and contribute to the aesthetic and social fabric of their communities. They are most often developed and operated with private investment and require professional management of the complex interface between public access, operational health and safety, environmental control, industrial activities, tourism and community activities.

ICOMIA Standard 51 – 18: Acceptance Criteria Guidelines for the Finish and Appearance for Super Yacht Coatings

October 1, 2018

ICOMIA Standard 51 – 18: Acceptance Criteria Guidelines for the Finish and Appearance for Super Yacht Coatings

October 1, 2018

ICOMIA Standard 51 – 18: Acceptance Criteria Guidelines for the Finish and Appearance for Super Yacht Coatings. This follows on from past documentation on acceptance criteria for coatings, including ISO 11347. This brand-new document takes a novel approach to the development of acceptance criteria: rather than providing ‘Pass/Fail’ values it will instead serve as a structured guide to assist contractual parties in constructing their own project specific, fit-for-purpose acceptance criteria document. This document takes a high-level approach to the development of acceptance criteria: instead of providing ‘Pass/Fail’ values, it will not include reference to values. It is purely a guideline for companies/contractual parties/consultants on how to create their own acceptance criteria – offering a technical 'Aide-mémoire'. The Acceptance Criteria Guidelines for the Finish and Appearance for Super Yacht Coatings is designed to allow the creation of mutually-agreed, project-specific criteria, and should be used in the pre-contract stage. Paint criteria parameters and Pass/Fail values may consider any of the following client requirements: materials, products to be used, equipment, processes, timelines, application facilities and specific paint system variables. In each case, the 2018 ICOMIA guidelines provide a methodology for determining appropriate values for each requirement. Annex I offers a template for paint acceptance criteria.

ICOMIA Marinas Group Recommendation on Marina Lease Tenders

June 1, 2018

ICOMIA Marinas Group Recommendation on Marina Lease Tenders

June 1, 2018

Marinas are most often developed and operated with private investment and require professional management of the complex interface between public access, operational health and safety, environmental control, industrial activities, tourism and community activities. Essential to their long-term viability and consequential delivery of high-quality public benefits is an investment framework that provides investment certainty through both security of tenure and affordable seabed and land rents within the range of Sustainable Occupancy Cost. Unsustainably high occupancy costs typically lead to poorly maintained, operated or abandoned facilities delivering poor community outcomes. The financial criteria for public land tendered for marina development by way of lease should be based on a clear understanding of the Sustainable Occupancy Cost for a given marina development taking into account the various uses on the site and the length and certainty of lease tenure as determined by suitably qualified professionals. This can be then translated to a lease fee per surface unit for the land and water area covered, if required, to enable a suitable analysis of tenders

ICOMIA + NMMA Trade Mission to Argentina & Uruguay - March 2018

Member Report
April 9, 2018

With a new government in place embracing a more pro-industry, pro-trade agenda than its predecessor, the future of Argentina's recreational marine industry is finally looking positive after a decade of stagnation. Meanwhile, Uruguay's rise in tourism and potential for new infrastructure places it on the 'one to watch' list. Tasked to assess these blossoming market conditions and investigate potential opportunities, ICOMIA's Secretary General, Udo Kleinitz, and NMMA's Senior Export Director, Julie Balzano, led a week-long fact-finding mission to Argentina and Uruguay in March 2018. Please see attached the report from their trip - MIAs can share this with their members for free.
