ICOMIA to host technical workshop at METS

by

For the third year in a row, the popular ICOMIA and European Boatbuilder collaboration Workshop on New Technologies will be held on Wednesday 16 November at METS. The workshop is free to attend and features an impressive line-up of expert industry speakers and current topics.
“This is the absolute best speakers we could have hoped for”, says ICOMIA’s Technical Manager Udo Kleinitz about this year’s line-up.
This year’s special highlights feature prominent naval architect Gerard Dykstra presenting his vision of “Future Boat Design” and Brazilian marine industry association ACOBAR’s Jorge Nasseh speaking about the highly topical “Boatbuilding Regulations/Standards in Brazil”.
Other expert presentations include “Fuel Cells in Marine Application” (Tom Chicken, Fuel Cell Systems), “Quiet Boats – Sound Quality in Cabins” (Hannu Nykanen, VTT), “A Simplified Approach to Scantlings Calculation” (Robin Loscombe, Southampton Solent University), “An Industry Approach to Avoid Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing” (Udo Kleinitz, ICOMIA and John Adey, ABYC) and “Structural Design of Details in FRP-stiffeners” (Markku Hentinen, VTT).
Throughout the past year, ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) has been very active in finding solutions to regulatory and standardisation issues. The results of this work will be presented at the workshop through the publication of simplified scantlings software and the electromagnetic compatibility best engineering standard.
Workshop on New Technologies is tailored for boat builders operating internationally and those who self-certify their boats, but everybody interested in the speakers and subjects is encouraged to attend. The workshop provides priceless information regarding standard applications and reflects the state of the art in manufacturing.
“This symposium gives boat builders the opportunity to hear about the latest technical developments straight from the mouths of the experts”, said Tony Jones, Technical Editor at European Boatbuilder Magazine which moderates and co-organises Workshop on New Technologies.
Last year’s workshop turned out to be a huge success with a record-breaking number of registrations for the limited seats. The 2010 workshop focused on making production more efficient by using technology that is available for implementation and addressed issues from modern adhesives and fuel systems to power storage.
“I was very please how Workshop on New Technologies went during METS last year – the audience gave us excellent feedback, said Mr Kleinitz.
“The positive response confirms the need to provide this service to our industry and I’m happy to say that we have improved Workshop on New Technologies beyond all expectations with our 2011 outline agenda. I am very excited about it.”
It is completely free to attend Workshop on New Technologies but early registration is recommended as the limited seats will go quickly.
