There is a growing recognition of the benefits of standardisation for superyacht coatings. ISO 11347 Coatings- Measurement and Analysis of the Visual Appearance is under development and a Draft International Standard will be published shortly. A New Work Item Proposal is for coatings application is expected to be published by ISO later in the year. The ISO working group has decided not to develop at this stage an ISO standard that sets specific values for the finish of superyacht coatings. However at the International Superyacht Coatings Conference in Monaco last December, there was a consensus among delegates that a standard is required on the finish and appearance for super yacht coatings which does set specific measurements. It was agreed that this would be published initially as an ICOMIA Technical Standard and should it prove to have utility, it will be passed to ISO for consideration as an international standard. A working group has developed a draft standard based on one developed for HISWA by COT. ICOMIA now welcomes and encourages comment on this draft standard from the wider industry. Access to the draft standard, which is on a web page, can be gained by sending a request to info@icomia.com and access and registration details will be provided. All comments are posted on the web page and will be circulated through e-mail notification allowing all users to read them. that sets specific values for the finish of superyacht coatings.
