As a management consultant for marina owners and operators, I am often asked how do I know if I am making the right decision for my marina. To begin with anyone that owns or operates a marina successfully must quickly realize that they are in a capital intensive service industry. I have been fortunate to having worked for clients both here in Europe as well as in the United States and Central America. Although I have seen many differences in marina operations there is one underlying theme at all successfully operated marinas and that is they meet their customer`s needs and expectations. One of my favorite sayings is if you do not take care of your customer someone else will. For example, your marina may have the most convenient access to the best boating in the area. It is competitively priced and has the most upland amenities of any marina in the market, yet not achieve its fill income potential, or the occupancy levels of other marinas in your target market.
