Description

This is an abstract of a study examining the possibilities and challenges set by sustainable development in the leisure boating industry. The environmental impacts of the complete life cycle of selected leisure boats were studied using life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology with the purpose of further improving the environmental performance of the industry. The study promotes a model for the communication of environmental data and performance among stakeholders. The results of the study are directed mainly at leisure boat manufacturers. The study was carried out in co-operation with Finnboat (the Finnish Marine Industries Federation) and Finnish leisure boat manufacturers. International co-operation was executed in particular with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA). The full study is available (in Finnish only) by contacting Markku Hentinen (markku.hentinen@vtt.fi)
