This IEMS has been prepared for the Boating Industry Association of Queensland by Steve Fisher and has been adopted by all members of the BIAQ Marinas Division. Existing legislation requires operators of petroleum product sales facilities, marinas and boat maintenance and repair facilities to ensure they take all practical measures, in accordance with all applicable legislation and Acts or ordnances, to prevent, control, or reduce contamination of the environment and to control and regulate the disposal of waste off the sites under the operator’s care in a manner which complies with statutory regulations. Regardless of this legislation, pollution prevention is an important economic and environmental concern for the (IDT) at its fuel wharf, marinas and boat maintenance and repair facilities located in the environmentally sensitive area adjoining the IDT’s leasehold land at Address, Suburb in State, Australia. It is acknowledged by the IDT and its customers that a sound environmental policy will contribute to the IDT’s competitive strength and benefit the customers, tenants, customers and employees by enhancing the overall wellbeing and economic health of the marina community which the Organisation serves. In this IEMS, the Name Of Organisation is looking to develop the best and most cost effective way to prevent pollution from entering the environment. The proposal leans heavily on pollution prevention as THE most cost effective way to prevent the generation of the waste itself, thus reducing the need to control the waste. However, the IEMS also acknowledges it will still be necessary to control the waste generated – initially through collection and then, if ultimately necessary, through chemical, physical, mechanical and electrical treatment and retention for subsequent sustainable disposal. Name Of Organisation’s approach, outlined in this IEMS, is to classify all pollution prevention options into “S” short term (implemented within three months from acceptance of this IEMS), “M” moderate term (implemented within nine months) and “L” long term (18 months or, in some cases longer, but within the maximum five years allowed in the relevant legislation). This IEMS details how the Organisation proposes to manage the environmental impacts of carrying out the environmentally relevant activities (ERAs) relating to the operation of the IDT’s marinas and the IDT’s boat maintenance and repair facilities. The strategies detailed integrate all activities to achieve better environmental management. It should be read in conjunction with the IDT By-Laws, Rules and Regulations and the Organisation Marina Plan of Management.
