Description

This paper is presented as a guide to the changes in attitude to dredging which marina developers, operators and their advisers must make, or have made, over the last few years, as a result of the increasing scale of environmental attention being paid to dredging. I will not be particularly specific, or even technical. Instead, I will try to indicate the points which have to be addressed and hint at some of the options which may be open in more straightforward cases. However, it is of paramount importance to make clear that this is a problem which has to be taken seriously from the beginning, at some considerable cost, to reduce the risk of a whole project being abandoned or delayed by some minor unforeseen environmental effect of the dredging or disposal process.
