Expertly-Led Campaigns
HKBIA, expertly led by Lawrence Chow, have, after years of campaigning, managed to secure positive support for the development of the marine leisure industry in Hong Kong and the wider Greater Bay Area.

ICOMIA were able to support the development of new pro-tourism strategies by sharing case studies and examples of progress in other areas of the world, with similar cruising potential. The Policy Research team were keen to hear more about the low-impact, high-value nature of boating tourism, as compared to say, cruise ships and to learn more about the facilities that are needed to unlock this growth.
Marine Authority Meeting

The second meeting was with the Marine Authority, who manage all safety and compliance policies for all marine activity in the area. Collectively, we were able to demonstrate the high levels of skills, qualifications and responsibility of our industry.
The result was a very positive attitude towards making inter-regional boating easier and reducing bureaucracy.
ICOMIA CEO Comments
ICOMIA CEO Joe Lynch said, “We must congratulate HKBIA on their tireless efforts to advocate on behalf of their members. The results are plain to see. The Chief Executive of Hong Kong has explicitly articulated a pro-boating strategy, and the supporting organisations have a hugely positive and proactive attitude as a result. It won’t be long before the Greater Bay Area becomes known as the Greater Bay Archipelago, with over 1000 islands to explore and is rightly seen as one of the premier cruising grounds in Asia.”

ICOMIA’s Asian Working Group will convene to discuss and agree on strategies to help build a global understanding of the opportunities in Asia and to collect the data to inform a Future Skills Strategy committee.
