Description
The 6th Environmental Action Programme (6EAP) of the European Union came into force in July 2002. DECISION no. 1600/2002/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 22 July 2002 – Laying down the Sixth Community Environment Action Programme contains a number of improvements compared with the original proposal from the European Commission, partly due to the intensive work of the EEB and its members. Below I give an overview of the most important commitments and obligations laid down in the final, legally binding text. These commitments and obligations can become important tools for placing pressure upon all three EU Institutions over the forthcoming ten years.
