Updated guide to the new EU recreational craft directive now available for all tablets:
The new EU Recreational Craft Directive 2013/53/EU will take force on 18 January 2016, and with only 7 months to go, European Boating Industry and ICOMIA are pleased to announce the release of the 2.0 update of the EU RCD Guide, as well as several translated versions.
Initially launched in English at METS last November, the guide is now available in 3 languages, downloadable on both Apple and Android tablets, alongside the PDF version supported by any device. The main purpose of this guide is to offer companies (especially smaller ones without dedicated product compliance staff) a practical, easy-to-understand guide that will help them ensure that the product they build, import or distribute on the EU single market is fully compliant and safe. The positive feedback we have received so far has convinced us that translating the guide into as many EU languages and releasing the Android App, will make the new rules even more accessible.
The guide is now available in the following languages: – English as original language – French thanks to the work and translation by FIN (Federation des Industries Nautiques) – Estonian thanks to the work and translation by AEB (Association of Estonian Boatyards)
More translations are under preparation: the German and Swedish versions will be released this summer while more languages including Italian are planned for this autumn.
From 18 January 2016, boats, personal watercraft, engines and certain components (whether imported or produced in the EU) will have to be assessed according to the new EU rules. Already-built products that were assessed according to the “old” EU Directive 94/25/EC as amended by Directive 2003/44/EC will have a year to be sold as they are, i.e. until 17 January 2017.
