Description

In the previous fact sheet The Compelling Need for Informing Government About Marinas, you read about government’s need to know more about the myriad of issues surrounding the operation and maintenance of marinas so that government does not become part of the problem by ill-advised, uninformed regulation. The object of this fact sheet, published courtesy of Marina/Dock Age magazine, is to inform marina operators where they can obtain information to help educate their legislators and administrative regulators at every level of government. In many countries around the world associations or federations of marinas and yacht harbors have been organized to represent the collective interest. It is found that by bringing together operators with similar objectives and issues and sharing both information and experience the association or federation is better able to collect and evaluate facts and figures about the marina industry as a whole, and to communicate this data to government authorities in charge of permitting and regulating marina development and operation. Readers who would like more in-depth information available from these various national and regional marina organizations can find many on the Internet linked to the ICOMIA Marinas Committee’s Web site.
