Description

Marinas can be designed, built and maintained to be harmonious with water quality, fish and wildlife habitat and the ecosystem. By environmentally conscious development planning, observance of recommended environmental best management practices and adherence to federal, state and local regulations, the potential for negative impacts can be avoided, mitigated or significantly reduced. Actually, the environment can be enhanced by the development of a marina. There are many instances where an environmentally sound, aesthetically pleasing recreational boating facility has replaced an abandoned factory or warehouse that was an eyesore and convenient dumping ground. Boaters, reputed for their pride in keeping their boat sparkling clean, expect the place where they dock their boat to be equally fastidious. Marinas rely in part on the beauty and attractiveness of their surroundings to attract customers and that means maintaining a high quality environment. In this age of heightened environmental sensitivity, marina operators are keenly aware that clean is green. It’s good for business and it’s a benefit to the community.
