Description

The ideal site to build a marina is increasingly difficult to find. Marina developers have to respond to a more demanding clientele. They have to differentiate to attract and retain boaters. Boat profiles are getting larger and there is an increasing demand for the berthing of megayachts. In order to be a global organization, nowadays, dock designers face very complex site and design challenges. It is our opinion that the complexity of future marina projects will increase in the leisure boating industry in terms of marina design challenges for the dock designers. This paper is presented with the desire to share international experience on the execution of a given project from a dock designer`s perspective. To do so, we selected Port Gocek Marina in Turkey; project we completed in Spring 1999. We asked ourselves: What challenges did we meet and what were the solutions?; that lead us to the ultimate question: Is there a Standard Solution? The intention of this presentation is to review the major design challenges we met from design stages to final completion and to comment on our solutions. We are more than pleased to introduce you to the making of Port Gocek Marina.
