Description

The search for new marina locations where waterfrontage is increasingly limited by environmental restrictions, land costs and competition by other “higher-value” uses has turned to existing commercial ports, which are interested in the economic potential for water recreation and tourism facilities. This paper examines the issues and benefits of recreational boating and water tourism in ports and harbors, relates how leading California ports have successfully integrated marina/water recreation complexes, and furnishes guidelines for marina and water tourism facilities in commercial ports.
