Dear All,

As discussed at the Environment Committee meeting earlier this month, a priority issue is to estimate the scale of the problem. In particular 1. how many boats are expected to be decommissioned over the next 1, 5, 10 years and beyond and 2. what quantity of different materials this creates which will need disposal/recycling.

As as a first step, please find attached a draft paper from EuCIA, who are working on a methodology to estimate the expected composite waste streams from different segments (including marine). They are keen to work with ICOMIA collaboratively on this issue and have offered support in developing a paper. Note this is just based on the EU but I expect their methodology could be used on a global scale. Please could you take a look and let me know if you have any views on their assumptions or methodology, and if you have any data which they could use to validate (or not) their methodology.

Kind Regards,

Hazel
